The brief
Rhapsody in Gold sells cord bracelets that customers personalise with two cord colours and a gold character charm. With so many combinations, a standard product page could not show what the finished bracelet would look like.
The tool had to work inside their existing store and product pages, and the team needed to add new cord colours and charms themselves without touching code.
What I did
- Built a real-time preview engine that layers Cord 1, Cord 2 and the character charm, updating instantly as the customer chooses.
- Integrated the previewer with the existing product pages: cord choices select the matching variant automatically and the customised combination is carried through to the cart.
- Linked the charm preview to the gold variant, so switching between yellow, rose and white gold swaps the charm image to match.
- Kept the preview in sync across the main previewer, a zoom modal on desktop and a full-screen pop-up for cord selection on mobile.
- Moved cord colours into Shopify metaobjects that support either a colour code or a real melange pattern image, with separate Standard and Petite cord lists chosen by product tag.
- Wrote a setup guide for the team covering product templates, tags, metafields, charm image specs and how to add or update cord colours.
The result
- Customers see exactly how their bracelet will look before ordering, across every cord and gold combination.
- The first version launched in about three weeks, followed by a second phase that added pattern swatches, gold-matched charms and the mobile pop-up.
- The Rhapsody in Gold team adds new cord colours, patterns and charms in Shopify admin themselves, following the setup guide.
